Stephen Williams Associates took on the task with the aim to create an environment that supports understandable and effective communication – one of the key principles that the agency maintains. The conference room is the central meeting space and heart of the new office – with a freestanding counter resembling an oversized Marshall Amp as its centrepiece. The flooring of the room is a bold and extravagant design element: It is made up of golden epoxy resin with an intense colour and shine.

In the heart of West Berlin, just off “Ku’damm”, the new “Aletto Hotel” takes visitors on a journey to Berlin in the 1950s. A listed office building from 1958 was converted into a youth hotel. In march 2012 it welcomed its first guests. With the aim to make the site’s diverse history a tangible experience, Stephen Williams Associates enjoyed the task to revive the vibe of the 50s in their design. Inspired by the era’s ease of youth and “Lebensfreude”, the designers combined furniture, colours and materials to create an all-embracing 1950s atmosphere.

Stephen Williams Associates have completed the interior design for the offices in Hamburg’s “Bleichenhof”. The office floors consist of five long-stretched wings with windows only to one side. The layout for a law firm results in long corridors with a seemingly endless succession of offices. Stephen Williams Associates found creative solutions for this challenge – a dynamic design theme that emphasises vigour and motion. The fit-out is the first step in the refurbishment of the Bleichenhof: Stephen Williams Associates have also been commissioned with the revitalisation of the whole complex in Hamburg`s city centre.

In January, the third Meininger Hotel designed by Stephen Williams Associates opened its doors at the Frankfurt/Main Airport. The term “airport hotel” conjures up similar connotations in most people’s minds: A conveniently located, functional yet faceless place. Stephen Williams Associates have set out to change this: With the Meininger Hotel Frankfurt Airport, they have created a destination that makes an airport stop over worthwhile. The hotel’s design theme takes the visitor back to the golden age of airline travel, when flying was exciting and the flight crew radiated an air of elegance and glamour.

Stephen Williams Associates’ competition entry for a club house on Hamburg’s Spielbudenplatz transforms the phenomenon „virtual social media“ into „real social architecture“. The core of their proposal is an interactive façade: A structure of public balconies, steps and landings covers the entire street elevation, and creates a vertical communication platform from ground to top floor. With ever changing reflections, projections and it’s “user generated content”, the façade changes continuously – the club house has a unique identity in a fast-moving, diverse and dynamic location.

In November, the agency DraftFCB moved into their new Hamburg office in the recently redeveloped “Kaufmannshaus”. The exceptionally large space of more than 3.000 square metres offered both opportunities and challenges for SWA: It is big enough to accommodate everything on one level, but also brings difficulties regarding the lighting and orientation. Stephen Williams Associates organised the vast space around a central courtyard that provides natural lighting. The company’s colours – black, white and orange – dominate the interior and help to structure the floor plan.

Stephen Williams Associates designed and realized the 102-rooms Hotel Meiniger in Salzburg, Austria.
The design themes of the Hotel are Salzburg themes – music, theatre and the mountains. Upon entering the reception on the ground floor, guests feel like they have arrived in a theatre. The central feature in the lobby is a small stage, which is frequently used for anything from spontaneous jam sessions to karaoke contests. It is located next to a bar with a pool table and a communal kitchen that is free for all guests to use. These elements create a relaxed and sociable atmosphere that is rarely ever found in budget hotels. Guests can enjoy a good night without leaving the premises.
