In the Meininger Hotel Brussels some of the finest parts of Belgium culture are celebrated through quirky design. As you walk through the hotel you may be mistaken for thinking you are about to run into Tintin and Snowy as the artistic expression throughout the hotel reminds you that you are in the comic book capital of Europe. Situated at the edge of the historic old town, directly next to the Canal Bruxelles-Charleroi the hotel is run on a carbon-neutral basis. The interior style celebrates the buildings history. A former city centre brewery and more recently used to exhibit art; it is a collaboration and celebration of Belgium art and Belgium beer! The hotel offers a 170 rooms from dorms to family suites making it ideal for all travelers alike. 170 3-star rooms, 719 beds over 4 storeys. The rooms are comfortable and stylish.
New interior design for the Agency Zum Goldenen Hirschen
The new Hamburg office of the advertising agency “Zum Goldenen Hirschen” has been completed. Stephen Williams Associates took on the task with the aim to create an environment that supports understandable and effective communication – one of the key principles that the agency maintains. The conference room is the central meeting space and heart of the new office – with a freestanding counter resembling an oversized Marshall Amp as its centrepiece. The flooring of the room is a bold and extravagant design element: It is made up of golden epoxy resin with an intense colour and shine.
25hours Hotel Hafencity wins prestigious T+L Design Award 2012
The 25hours Hotel Hafencity in Hamburg was honoured with the TRAVEL + LEISURE DESIGN AWARD 2012 for BEST LARGE HOTEL. The Hotel was designed by an multi-disciplinary team co-ordinated by Stephen Williams Associates. „The idea was to achieve an inclusive space that brings people together – where everyone can feel comfortable and be who they are,“ says Stephen Williams. The Travel + Leisure Design Awards highlights the significance of design in the traveler's world and its impact on the travel experience. A distinguished panel of judges awards excellence in design of destinations such as museums, hotels, restaurants and travelling products. Opening Aletto Hotel Berlin Charlottenburg
In the heart of West Berlin, just off “Ku’damm”, the new “Aletto Hotel” takes visitors on a journey to Berlin in the 1950s. A listed office building from 1958 was converted into a youth hotel. In march 2012 it welcomed its first guests. With the aim to make the site’s diverse history a tangible experience, Stephen Williams Associates enjoyed the task to revive the vibe of the 50s in their design. Inspired by the era’s ease of youth and “Lebensfreude”, the designers combined furniture, colours and materials to create an all-embracing 1950s atmosphere.
New interior design for the Bleichenhof offices
Stephen Williams Associates have completed the interior design for the offices in Hamburg’s “Bleichenhof”. The office floors consist of five long-stretched wings with windows only to one side. The layout for a law firm results in long corridors with a seemingly endless succession of offices. Stephen Williams Associates found creative solutions for this challenge – a dynamic design theme that emphasises vigour and motion. The fit-out is the first step in the refurbishment of the Bleichenhof: Stephen Williams Associates have also been commissioned with the revitalisation of the whole complex in Hamburg`s city centre.
Opening - Meininger Hotel Frankfurt Airport
In January, the third Meininger Hotel designed by Stephen Williams Associates opened its doors at the Frankfurt/Main Airport. The term “airport hotel” conjures up similar connotations in most people’s minds: A conveniently located, functional yet faceless place. Stephen Williams Associates have set out to change this: With the Meininger Hotel Frankfurt Airport, they have created a destination that makes an airport stop over worthwhile. The hotel’s design theme takes the visitor back to the golden age of airline travel, when flying was exciting and the flight crew radiated an air of elegance and glamour.
Interactive façade for the Spielbudenplatz
Stephen Williams Associates’ competition entry for a club house on Hamburg’s Spielbudenplatz transforms the phenomenon „virtual social media“ into „real social architecture“. The core of their proposal is an interactive façade: A structure of public balconies, steps and landings covers the entire street elevation, and creates a vertical communication platform from ground to top floor. With ever changing reflections, projections and it’s “user generated content”, the façade changes continuously – the club house has a unique identity in a fast-moving, diverse and dynamic location.
New Interior Design for Draftfcb
In November, the agency DraftFCB moved into their new Hamburg office in the recently redeveloped “Kaufmannshaus”. The exceptionally large space of more than 3.000 square metres offered both opportunities and challenges for SWA: It is big enough to accommodate everything on one level, but also brings difficulties regarding the lighting and orientation. Stephen Williams Associates organised the vast space around a central courtyard that provides natural lighting. The company’s colours – black, white and orange – dominate the interior and help to structure the floor plan.

The hotelforum Munich celebrated the prestigious award with a gala evening on October 6th. The jury awarded the hotel`s outstanding interplay of architecture, design and innovation that at the same time leads to a successful hotel business and real estate concept.
Restaurant Weltbühne - Completion and Grand Opening
Hamburg has a new gastronomy destination: The restaurant and Kaffeehaus "Weltbühne" opened in August in the house of the Thalia Theater. Stephen Williams Associates created a unique interior giving traditional european coffeehouse elements a contemporary twist. The complete furniture fit out and all lighting products were designed by Stephen Williams Associates for the "stage beyond the stage".
Opening 25 hours Hotel
At the beginning of July the 25hours Hotel opened as the first Hotel in the Hamburg HafenCity. The unique and authentic interior design turns the hotel into the "new living room of the Hafencity", where people sleep in bunk furniture, eat between storage shelves, work in a cargo container, lounge in vintage furniture and check in between wooden transport boxes.
Opening Shipping Company Headquarters
Shipping Company Bernhard Schulte Group enjoys their new headquarters near the Hamburg Landungsbrücken. Stephen Williams Associates developed a special interior design for the family-run-company as well as a new workspace furniture system. Suspended light boxes provide an intimate atmosphere contrasted with the panoramic views over hamburg Harbour.
Completion Jung von Matt Headquarters
How to design a workspace which inspires and challenges even the most creatives of the creatives? JvM advertising agency in Hamburg commissioned Stephen Williams Associates to re-design their directors floor. The management now resides in a space that was quickly dubbed the “elephant house”. Stephen Williams Associates designed a communal executive‘s office that indeed bears some similarities to one. There is only one huge table which all directors share which sits heavily in the middle of an otherwise sparsely furnished room dominated by strong and dark materials.
Opening Meininger Salzburg
Stephen Williams Associates designed and realized the 102-rooms Hotel Meiniger in Salzburg, Austria. The design themes of the Hotel are Salzburg themes – music, theatre and the mountains. Upon entering the reception on the ground floor, guests feel like they have arrived in a theatre. The central feature in the lobby is a small stage, which is frequently used for anything from spontaneous jam sessions to karaoke contests. It is located next to a bar with a pool table and a communal kitchen that is free for all guests to use. These elements create a relaxed and sociable atmosphere that is rarely ever found in budget hotels. Guests can enjoy a good night without leaving the premises.
Opening Bauwerk Store, Stilwerk Vienna
With the opening of the new Stilwerk Vienna has a new adress for lifestyle and design. The Swiss Parquet Manufacturer opened a new store designed by SWA in the Stilwerk building from Jean Nouvel. Heart of the store is an innovative object developed by Stephen Williams Associates that enables the customer to select their parquet in combination with other materials such as carpets, wall colors etc.
Topping-Out-Ceremony at the Schulte Group Headquarters
Hamburgs shipping company Schulte Group is building their new headquarters facing the Elbe river near Landungsbrücken. With the Topping-Out-Ceremony on 21th of October, the whole project team celebrates the construction of the eight-storeyed building. In the next weeks Stephen Williams Associates will begin with the interior fit-out of the 6.000 sq.m. One year ago SWA won the interior design competition with a concept that transforms maritime elements into the architecture and on the same time integrates the art and sculpture collection of the company. In spring 2011 all 200 employees will move into the new office with a spacial concept, furniture and light objects designed by Stephen Williams Associates.
25hours Party at the construction site
The new 25hours Hotel will open in March 2011 as the first hotel in the Hafencity Hamburg with an outstanding story and design about seamen, containerships, harbour warehouses and a lot more themes from the world of shipping. Together with the opening of the Übersee Promenade many guests celebrated on 23rd of october the progression of the hotel construction. The public groundfloor is structured as an open warehouse space enclosed by a huge storage shelf along the 5m high glass facade. It will be the warm, cosy living room in the new built Hafencity and serve as a platform for different events. On Saturday everybody could experience that the space is very suitable to party.
Jung von Matt Headquarters Interior Design
Jung von Matt, one of Germanys most creative advertising agencies will extend their headquarters in Hamburg. In September Stephen Williams Associates startet refurbishing the 1.000 sq.m on two floors within an old warehouse building. In January 2011 the agency will present a new directors office that breaks with tradition. The outstanding designconcept was developed by Stephen Williams Associates in dialogue with the Jung von Matt executive board.
SWA designs two new Hotels for the Meininger Group
One year after the opening of the Meininger Hotel at Berlins Central Station, Stephen Williams Associates is designing two new interiors for the Meininger Group. Urban travellers can enjoy a new City Hotel in Salzburg, Austria opening in April 2011. But also guests travelling by plane can look forward to the first Meininger Airport Hotel at Frankfurt Airport opening in 2012. Both Hotels have its own location-specific story.
Opening Motel One Hamburg Alster
„Design a facade for a 20-floor-building for the tenant Motel One, providing 464 rooms each with a window of 1.0 sqm at already defined positions.“ With that briefing Hamburgs real estate developer Quantum Immobilien commissioned Stephen Williams Associates to get a special identity for the 40.000 sq.m building complex in Hamburg St. Georg. Inspired by the reflecting lights in the nearby Alster lake a facade cladding of golden aluminium panels shimmers in different tones while the windows are vertically bond together with black glass panels. The mosaic facade forms a surprising new landmark in Hamburgs highrise- skyline. As a gateway to the city the building gives a strong identity to the urban district, and matches perfectly with the Motel One Interior Design.
SWA trip to switzerland
Zurich was the first stop of the SWA trip to switzerland in may 2010. The entire team enjoyed the city, it`s nightlife and the restaurants designed by SWA in Mövenpick`s Airport Hotel. The 190-seat-restaurant was completely booked and everybody enjoyed the excellent food, the warm atmosphere and the subtle design. The next day was an inspiring architec-tour through Basel including a visit in Uniplan`s Office, completed a year ago based on the design and planning by SWA. A day in the Vitra Design Museum was the perfect finish of the SWA-tour full of interesting locations, nice people, good talks and a lot of fun. It was the second tour after an unforgettable trip to Venice in september 2008.

The Prototype room for 25hours Hotel in Hamburgs "HafenCity" shows the the design theme "combining contrasts" taking influences from the 100 year old historic warehouse city to the modernity of the new built "Hafen City".
Valentines Party in its 2nd year
Since the creative-network-party ”Rock into Valentine“ in February 2009 turned out to be a huge success Stephen Williams invited 300 selected guests to the second Valentinesparty. In the legendary restaurant “Rialto” on Fleetinsel Hamburg numerous friends and colleagues from the fields of architecture, design, art, photography, film, real estate, advertising, fashion and lifestyle were celebrating “Into the Light”.
Opening of Hotel Meininger at Berlin Central Station
The flagshiphotel Meininger at Berlin central station was designed by Stephen Williams Associates and opened with a big party. Stephen Williams Associates created a design concept for the new appearance of the Meininger Group, the market leader of the Budget Hotels. The architecture and design of the 300 guestrooms along with a lobby, a bar, a breakfast area, a lounge and a kitchen for backpackers define new standards in the design of low-budget hotels. With a strong workmanship and low investment costs, an urban and dynamic design-hostel was created, addressing all target groups – including business travellers, families, backpackers, as well as classes.
